Crying Out to God

Psalm 5:1-3 is a great consolation to the suffering and sad.

"Give ear to my words, O LORD;
consider my groaning.
[2] Give attention to the sound of my cry,
my King and my God, for to you do I pray.
[3] O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice;
in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you
and watch" (Psalm 5:1-3).

It is good to lift our "groaning" to God and call upon Him to "give ear" to our words.

It is right to "cry" out to God and call upon Him to "give attention" to the sound of it.

This is one way David prays, saying, "for to you do I pray."

You are not alone in your sufferings and struggles. Living for God is spiritual warfare. The world, the flesh, and the devil are waging war against you. You are surrounded by temptations, distractions, and perhaps persecutions. We are all, so long as we live in these bodies, full of sin, weakness, and forgetfulness. Long story short, there are lots of things in the world and inside of us that will cause "groaning" and lead us to "cry." Then what do we do?

In faith and humility, we direct our "groaning" and our "cry" to God above. What does David say? He says, "My King and my God." In times of crying and groaning and anguish and trouble, it soothes the heart to remember that God sits enthroned in heaven as ruler of all things. "The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.'" But the children of God know He exists and, much more, they know He loves them, watches over them, has the power to help them, and will help them according to His wisdom, will, compassion, purpose, and timing.

So, we pray and watch. We lift our requests and we wait for the Lord.

David woke up with this mindset. "O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch." The first order of business each day, no matter what kind of day it is or how we are feeling, is to look to God, lift our prayers to Him, and set our hearts to watch and wait for God's help and guidance in our lives.

We can say with David, "O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice."
