The Power of God to Help

01/02/2024

Genesis 1:1 is a great consolation when you feel distant from, or doubt the power of God to help you.

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1:1)

We lack power but God does not. God can make things that did not previously exist. God can do things that are impossible for us. If He made the heavens and the earth out of nothing, we should believe in the power of Almighty God.

Psalm 121:1-2 can be a source of strength when you feel weak and weary.

"I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? [2] My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth." (Psalm 121:1-2)

If God had infinite power but did not care about us, that would be terrible. But if God has infinite power and He cares about us deeply, that is wonderful. If God uses His power to comfort the hurting, to console the lonely, to strengthen the weak, to forgive the sinner, to love the forgotten, to help the wounded, weary, afflicted, and tired, then rejoice. Rejoice, and go to God in the desperation of prayer and do this one simple thing: Cry out for help.

Jeremiah 32:17 brings comfort when we lack the strength within ourselves to persevere.

"Ah, Lord GOD! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you." (Jeremiah 32:17)

It all comes back to God's creative power. Yes, beloved, God has the power to help you in your time of need. More than that, He has the compassion to be willing to help you and the mercy, grace, and steadfast love to deeply desire to help you.

Blessed is the one who finds help in the living God.

By looking to God in faith, trusting His power, mercy, wisdom, and will above your own, you can find divine help to endure any situation and suffering.

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, [7] casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. [8] Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." (1 Peter 5:6–8)

Make God your helper; He can do what you cannot.

"Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.' [6] So we can confidently say,
'The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?'" (Hebrews 13:5–6)

You are not alone. God is with you. God cares for you. God has the power and mercy to help you.

Go to God through faith in Christ. Go to God desperate and crying out for help. Go to God believing in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

Go to God in His Word, which is sure and certain and has the ability to reach your mind and heart with the will of God for your life.

Whatever else you engage yourself in this week, be sure to throw your anxieties down before the throne of God in heaven.

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth," but right now God can help the weak and weary sinner.
